Tuesday I attended the services for my long time friend Nicole Brooks who suddenly passed away on May 31. I have known her and her entire family since I was born. She was one of the nicest people I have ever known! She was a great mother, daughter, wife, friend, cousin, aunt, and person.
I can't say that this one is easy to swallow but attending the services on Tuesday definitely helped. We got to celebrate the life of a beautiful person. My heart still breaks for her 3 children, especially since they are so young and I know what its like to lose your mother. I do know that Nicole did a great job raising them since she has such a great family that they will grow up with a fantastic support system. Her daughter was one of my beautiful flower girls in my wedding and Nicole was so proud of her. She was perfect!
I have spent the last few days going over lots of the memories I have of Nicole especially when we were little. Our dads would watch the races and we would play all day and Nicole always kept me and Jeff out of trouble. We spent HOURS building various things with a huge k'nex set and played with our barbies and dolls too. We also played on the swing set outside and even dug a huge 3 foot hole in the backyard that Jeff convinced me to jump into. After "loosing my breath" Nicole ran inside to get our dads. She was the voice of reason and the responsible one. One time I wanted to play "zoo" and tipped her brother Ryan's playpen over and acted like he was a caged lion, Nicole again told me I was mean and got her mom to help the little baby out!
She taught me how to put on eyeshadow and how to play dream phone. We also sang (more like screamed along) to a particular Annie Lennox Song... and contemplate if she was a boy or girl... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiYF7pUPuFs&feature=related
We did decide she was a boy and I literally just found out she is a girl as I typed in Andy Lennox in youtube. Good to know... Nicole is definitely laughing about that up in Heaven!
Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again!
